The Accessibility Improvement Act (BFSG) comes into force on June 28, 2025. This makes accessibility an official legal requirement.
What is it about?
From summer 2025, digital products and services must be designed in such a way that they are accessible to all people – regardless of individual limitations.
- Websites and online stores: All digital services must be designed in such a way that they can be easily used by people with disabilities.
- Mobile applications: Apps should be accessible and intuitive to use.
- Self-service terminals: Devices such as cash machines or ticket machines must be accessible.
What sounds like a major technical project affects not only IT, but the entire company. Because accessibility needs a corporate culture that involves everyone. Three levers make the difference
- Raising awareness: Training courses and workshops help to identify barriers – both technical and in terms of interaction.
- Living openness: Anyone who sees accessibility only as a rule is standing still. We need an attitude that values and actively promotes diversity.
- Learn courageously: Mistakes are not a step backwards, but a learning step. The key is to keep at it and get better.
From duty to opportunity
Above all, accessibility is an excellent opportunity to strengthen organizations from within. Companies that take inclusion seriously benefit twice over: they improve the user experience and strengthen their employer brand. Employees experience that diversity is not just a buzzword, but a living part of the corporate culture.
Our tip: Keep employees and culture in focus
Whether new laws such as the EU AI Act, economic uncertainties or far-reaching transformations – there is currently a lot going on. That can be a burden. These changes cannot be prevented. But companies can consciously pay attention to their culture:
- Strengthening trust in leadership
- Promoting cohesion in teams
- Enable open communication
Those who cultivate a strong, inclusive culture master change better – and turn accessibility into a competitive advantage.
